Alexandra Botez

Alexandra Botez played in her first tournament in January 2002 at Bridge Center when she was six. She won her first tournament one month later at BCIT when she won K to 2 section with 4.5/5. In 2004 she became BC grade 3 Champion and finished on 5th place during Canadian Chess Challenge in Winnipeg (the only girl in that group). In the same year she became Canadian Champion for girls under 10 and one year later she was silver medalist in the same category followed by bronze in 2006 for girls under 12. In 2004 and 2005 she was a member of Canadian Youth National team and participated at the World Youth Chess Championship in Greece (2004) and France (2005). Also in 2006 has won the Canadian Open - Under 1600 section - by scoring 7.5/9! One of her games played during Worker's Memorial 2006 is shown here. This photo shows Alexandra with GM Susan Polgar.


Jack Cheng

Jack won many junior chess awards in China before coming to Canada at age 7. He is BC Chess Challenge champion for 2003 (grade 2), 2005 (grade 4) and 2006 (grade 5). Jack has been a proud member of TEAM BC, traveling to other provinces and State of Washington. This photo shows Jack (left) and Ben Daswani at Macskasy Memorial 2005. Vlad Gaciu

One year after he started playing, Vlad finished first at the Western Canadian Open in U1600 section, and he represented BC team in 2003 Canadian Chess Challenge (grade 7) in Winnipeg. The following year, he tied for 3rd place at the Canadian Youth Championship in Victoria 2005, and went as part of team Canada to World Youth Championship in France. Last month, he tied for first place in Worker Memorial Open Section (April 2006) in Kamloops. Some of his games at CYCC2005 are shown here (search "Gaciu").


Arie (Arik) Milner

Arie (Arik) Milner played his first CFC rated tournament about two years ago when he was eight years old. Now he has become one of the highest CFC rated players in Canada for his age group. Recently he won UBC Tuesday Night chess tournament for the second time (cross table), facing strong adult players. One of his games is shown here. Any BC junior chess player (from kindergarten to grade 12) who likes to play chess and wants to be featured on this page will be added.

3. What information is needed?

If you or your children want to be featured, please send a short description of the player (see sample above) of no more than 150 words, one or two photos, and at least one of your games. Photos and games can be selected from this web site. Because children's photos and names will be shown, parental consent is needed.
